Eriksberg is a 925 hectare fenced nature reserve in the Blekinge archipelago. Here the red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, European bison, wild boar and mouflon roam freely in this unique nature reserve. Be among the first to stay at Eriksberg’s new hotel, Arken – The building itself is a wooden ship, grounded against the granite rocks. When you cross the gangway, a journey awaits, where you get to experience the animals and birds in their natural environment right outside your hotel room.

When you visit Eriksberg, you help to preserve various species such as bison, bat species, the red water lily and much more:

● Eriksberg is one of northern Europe’s largest game enclosures and a nature reserve with high biodiversity and has a summer population of about 1,500 animals.

● Eriksberg is a veritable gene bank for various species and has an important function as a research and reference area for ecosystems.

● The Eriksberg Prize, which is awarded annually, will stimulate the active use of nature’s different values and contribute to the financing of research related to the environment and the diversity that takes place at Eriksberg. Projects have been carried out on beetle species, fishing, butterflies, spiders, tree rejuvenation, bird life, lichens and mosses, all of which have led to valuable experiences and reports.

● Eriksberg has one of the world’s largest populations of the protected red water lily.

● Eriksberg also houses and protects 16 of Sweden’s 19 bat species.

● Approximately 90 hectares of protected bays in the Baltic Sea mean significant play and growth areas for e.g. pike.

● There is a rich bird life including sea eagles with over 60 species red-listed in the EU Birds Directive

● It nurtures and preserves valuable natural and marine environments that have been prioritized within Natura 2000. Eriksberg is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Blekinge Archipelago.

Eriksberg’s sustainability work:

● Food produced in the local area and following the seasons is offered. At Eriksberg, people are largely self-sufficient in game meat from their own farm. You have your own slaughterhouse and can therefore follow and control the entire process from forest to plate. Highest hygiene, traceability and veterinary inspection apply. The venison is healthy, climate-smart and free of antibiotics, dyes and additives.

● In other respects, efforts are made in restaurants and hotels to use raw materials and products from local and / or organic producers

● You sort at source and recycle.

● Rock heat is used for heating and for cooling down and energy use is measured and evaluated continuously. Sweden’s tough environmental goal of halving energy consumption by 2030 has already been achieved. Energy consumption for heating, cooling and hot water has at Eriksberg switched to 100% renewable energy and been reduced by about 60%. This by renovating and building well and using modern technology such as rock heat pumps and solar cells.

● Renewable / source-labeled electricity is used and the local partner of electricity is Karlshamn Energi AB.

● Eriksberg always chooses equipment with good and durable quality for double life on, for example, computers, switches, screens, black and white copies and so on.

● All types of internal combustion engines in implements, vehicles, tractors and boats are selected with the environment in mind.

● The minibars have low energy consumption.

● It is possible to charge electric cars, both 230V and 400V / 16A.

● The new entrance building, Outdoor Eriksberg is a “plus house”. During the summer, we can sell electricity on a fairly large scale and then cover the annual consumption for several houses.
