Aurora safari camp tipis

Opened in 2013 by photographer Fredrik Broman, and Aurora Safari Camp is the first Arctic “glamping place” in the world and unique to northern Scandinavia. The camp is located by the Råne river in Swedish Lapland. Here you and the family can experience a real Swedish safari adventure! The clean air, the adventurous nature and not least the starry sky you experience at night here, with the Milky Way just above your head, is pure magic.

Winterland: Safari svenska Lappland

Real winter! Enjoy hiking in stunning snowy landscapes.

Winter bath: Vinterbad Aurora Safari Camp Lappland

Of course there is a sauna here so you can experience an ice cold thrill, followed by a much needed warm up again. The body responds by producing heat, endorphins and relaxation. Wild and cold swimming – an experience of the daring Swedes.

The locals - the Sami: Möte med samer svenska Lappland

There may also be an opportunity to meet a Sami family to get an insight and learn more about their culture and how they live. There are approx. 50,000 people in northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia who call themselves Sápmi. The population has been exposed to pressure and is partly “Swedishized”, but a new pride is emerging, among the younger generations.

The food: Matupplevelse Aurora Safari Camp Lappland

Look forward to delicious meals both indoors but not least outdoors.

Lounges: Lounge aurora safari camp

In the outdoor lounge you can have a drink by the fireplace with a great view of the river.

There is a wood burning stove in each Lavvu, and although the outdoor temperatures are very low, your room is warm and comfortable. Aurora Safari Camp has minimal impact on the environment around it, compared to “normal” hotels. The water you drink has been filtered through a sand bed, you have eco-toilets, a urine separation system, and waste from the site is transported to a biogas plant in a nearby town, which is then converted into fuel for the municipal buses. The birch wood used to heat the tents is from local suppliers. Birch wood is a biofuel, and birch grows fast. Transport to the camp takes place with a modern snowmobile with a catalytic system and a very energy-efficient engine (consumption approx. 8-10 liters per 100 km). The camp is not connected to the main grid. There are solar cells and LED lights that provide all the necessary light.
