Sample Itinerary
The lodge is situated on the bank of the internationally renowned Alta River in Norway’s high Arctic.
The Lodge offer guests premium accommodation combined with large lounge, restaurant and bar area. All of the rooms have panoramic windows extending from the floor into the ceiling, maximizing the views of the adjacent river and Arctic wilderness as well as enabling viewing of Northern lights.
Combine your stay at the lodge with an incredible sleepover at the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel; the second of its kind and the World’s Northernmost Igloo Hotel. Each year experienced artists and builders come together to build a new and unique hotel with a special theme. For 2023 the theme is the African savannah – a theme that lies close to our hearts. Sleeping in the Igloo Hotel is a unique experience which you will remember the rest of your life!
Enjoy a wonderful experience of mushing a team of huskies through the Arctic Wilderness. The husky experiences include learning about the huskies and the skill of mushing most effectively. You will enjoy interacting with the eager and excited huskies who love to be active and run in front of the sleds. A guide is always part of the tour, but you will have your own sled and own team of huskies to lead. Each sled will have two persons where one will drive and the other will join as a passenger. Stops are made along the way where driver and passenger can swap positions. Either way you will enjoy the interaction with the huskies and the sensation of being dragged along the local wilderness trails.
Feel the rush of the winter air on your cheeks as you race along the frozen Alta River on a sled being pulled by a reindeer. This experience give you a sneak peek into the Sami lifestyle and introduces you to some of their traditions while being surrounded by magnificent winter scenery.
The combination of the reindeer sledding and storytelling in a traditional Lavvu around a bonfire provides fascinating insights into this special semi-nomadic culture.
This adventure offers a combination of exhilarating snowmobiling and the Arctic wilderness under the special Arctic light conditions. Your guide will provide you with your thermal suit, boots, gloves and helmet, as well as instruct you on how to drive the snowmobile properly so that you can go wild ways in safe hands.
The Experience has you driving your own snowmobile through the wilderness of the Alta River valley up to the inland plateau. During the winter months the Arctic light often creates wonderful colours on the horizon despite the sun never rising.
Sorrisniva is ideally located in the high Arctic and away from urban lights to maximise your potential of witnessing the mesmerising Aurora Borealis.
Sorrisniva is renowned for its culinary experience which is based upon locally sourced produce. The chefs create unique dishes using the best ingredients from Arctic Norway including reindeer and moose from the tundra, seafood from the Alta River and Norwegian sea, vegetables from local farms and berries picked in the local wilderness. Choose between fine dining in the Maku restaurant and the iconic Lavvu restaurant where also breakfast is served.
The iconic Lavvu restaurant, which represents the Sami tent design, has a special ambiance creating a memorable dining experience. In 2021 the Lodge cooperated with the Norwegian National Cooking Team and assembled a new savory culinary experience for the Lavvu Restaurant which closely relates to the very unique Arctic seasons that they have in the north.
