Environmental Policy
Baros has been committed to the environment for the past 40 years, making the resort a bit of a pioneer in this area of the Maldives. The resort has been located in a natural and environmentally friendly way.
Baros is not only a resort hotel but also a beautiful tropical garden, where you enjoy barefoot luxury in an environment where you take care of animals and nature.
On land
Waste water from kitchens and other places is recycled to irrigate the garden.
LED light bulbs are used to minimize electricity consumption.
All air conditioners are CFC-free.
All villas have been given heat pump systems to produce hot water for sinks and showers – the same applies to staff housing.
All cleaning agents and chemicals used at the resort can be biodegradable without any problems.
The resort’s project “Awareness” addresses local and global environmental issues. The project includes trips to neighbouring islands, diving trips and responsible fishing trips.
In the sea
The stunning but also for the Maldives vital coral reefs that you can experience at the resort, attract thousands of tourists every year. But they are much more than just a great experience: without this ecosystem, marine life would be significantly reduced and the very foundations of large sections of the reefs would disappear – without corals, no fish to eat and without corals significantly fewer tourists.
The resort informs its guests not to touch any corals and that it is illegal to take any “souvenirs” with you from the snorkling or diving trip.
It is also illegal to buy souvenirs made from turtle or shark. If you are discovered on the way home, the purchased item will be seized and you will receive a large fine. So really, it’s pretty easy: bring with you except your experiences and memories.
