Imagine you are sitting on your horse out in the shallow river. Reeds grow in the river, so the small group you are part of is a bit hidden from the large flocks of wildebeest and water bucks, which move slowly along the riverbank and further away towards a large, open area.
Imagine, too, the majestic feeling when, after a while on one of the hiking trails normally used only by the animals, you suddenly spot a group of buffalo or a herd of elephants a little further ahead.
On a riding safari in Botswana, you will experience many unforgettable and magical moments. Watch the blood-red sun set over the landscape in the evening, listen to the hyena’s whoop-de-whopp somewhere far away, get a sense of the lion’s power over his kingdom and let yourself be awakened by the hippopotamus’ merry grunt in the morning. This is a journey for you who really want to get close to nature.

Sample Itinerary
The OKAVANGO DELTA is a rider’s dream and part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The river water that spreads over the sand in the Kalahari Desert forms the basis for a rich wildlife and lots of birds, and the perfect way to experience this is from the back of a horse.
This trip does not look like other trips in deltas. Instead of staying permanently in a camp, you spend the night in mobile camps, which are transported every day between the various accommodations using a small fleet ofmekoros– local, traditional canoes paddled by members from the local community, people who live in the delta permanently and therefore know it as their own trouser pocket.
THE CAMP is very comfortable with tents where you can stand upright, good beds, the possibility of primitive shower and toilet. This trip is best suited for you who are a good or very experienced rider.
You must book this trip to experience this magical delta, the skilled local guides and the amazing wildlife.
This is a riding experience of the very big ones, where you also eat surprisingly well!
This safari is carried out almost completely without the use of vehicles, and together with the camp’s good cooperation with the local community, this provides an environmentally friendly journey. You start with a half-hour drive from Maun Airport to the southern end of Okavango, where your safari adventure begins. Here the horses are waiting for you, your luggage is loaded into one of the canoes to sail up to the camp, and you say hello to your horse and saddle up.
Exploring this wild nature from horseback is really exciting, and especially your first encounter with elephants will be a great experience – completely different from seeing them from a car or minibus.
The day ends with us riding into camp at sunset. Often the camp is located on a beautiful, isolated island.
There is not really a fixed program for the journey. The pace of the day is determined by how the water moves in the area where the animals are located and the weather. The longer you choose to be on this safari, the more times the camp will move between different locations. And there are many beautiful places to choose from, often you choose to spend the night on a sore that may have many trees – it provides shade during the day and less rain in the camp at night.
A typical day starts early with a light breakfast at dawn at the campfire site. The morning and morning are spent riding along old elephant paths or other paths and where the guide looks for traces of animals. Everywhere there will be birds that keep an eye on us with interest, both in the field and in the air.
We return to our camp at lunchtime. Now lunch and siesta await in the shade of a tree – often jackalberry or leadwood. In the afternoon or evening we take an excursion more, but most often at a slower pace. The horses are allowed to control the pace, and the evening sounds of the bush form an almost meditative soundscape. A little later we return to camp to have dinner under the stars.
From time to time, both horses and humans can take a break. This may mean that one evening we might take a relaxing boat ride in a mokoro or go for a walk in the bush to get acquainted with some of the smaller animals that have the area as their home. If you want, the guide can show you how to look for clues and signs in nature.
No two days are alike during this journey, and we look forward to sharing this unique nature with you.
On this journey, the chances are high that you will meet for example elephants, lions, hippos and other majestic animals.

Good to know about Botswana: The Okavango Delta is one of the most amazing wildernesses in Africa with over 15,000 square kilometers of water channels, lagoons and islands. Water from various rivers over 1,000 kilometers away floods the area every year, providing amazing conditions for the wildlife in this wetland.
Here you will experience a huge diversity of wildlife, from mammals to members of The Big Five and lots of birds. Here you can also experience animals that you would not otherwise experience in other parts of Africa, such as the sitatunga antelope, wild dogs and the beautiful wattled crane – on Danish wart cranes.
Security: Botswana is a stable democracy. However, we recommend that you always check with the guide, local people or local authorities if there are any special conditions you need to take into account.
Mobile coverage and internet: This works a bit like the wind blowing due to local conditions. Assume that there is no coverage on the mobile and that the internet can be very slow or non-existent. Then you will not be disappointed!
Visa: You must have a valid passport at all destinations outside the Nordic region. The passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after departure. In the event that a visa is required for Scandinavian citizens, this will be stated in the information we send to you after you have booked. It is your own responsibility to provide a visa for all travelers in your company. Children under the age of 18 must be able to present a birth certificate when entering or leaving Botswana. Please see the press release from the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs in Botswana on the right of this page. Please contact the Botswana Consulate (in Copenhagen) for further information. Only the Botswana authorities can guide you properly, as the regulations can be changed outside our control.
Danish citizens do not need a visa to Botswana, and you usually get a tourist visa for 90 days on arrival.

Packing: Sun hat, sunscreen, good shoes to walk in, the clothes you need for riding and preferably a riding helmet. Bring a small backpack to be able to bring water, binoculars, camera or other personal belongings on the excursions. We recommend soft rather than hard travel bags – they are easier to transport along the way, so a backpack or similar is a good choice. Mosquito nets are available on site, but feel free to bring mosquito spray or similar.

From the African country of Malawi comes the organization Trust, a project aimed at protecting wildlife in Africa. In Botswana, the Trust is collaborating with the OKMCT (Okavango Kopano Mekoro Community Trust) in connection with this journey – the Okavango Delta Ride. When you travel on this journey, you are contributing to the local community in the form of financial support. We would also argue that this experience in itself will give you a new perspective on nature and the animals that live here, and by sharing this with others when you return home, you will help increase your understanding of what is needed. , to preserve this and other natural areas in Africa.
